Ningaloo Reef’s Marine Debris Hotspot
Big Community Clean Up!
Point Cloates, Ningaloo Station
Point Cloates is a Marine Debris Hotspot along the Ningaloo Coast.
The open South facing Jane’s bay, the flowing Ningaloo Current and Leeuwin Current are the perfect combination to bring loads of Marine Debris on to shore of Jane’s Bay and Point Cloates.
We need to keep surveying and cleaning up this area so that we can slow down the debris at the source, and make sure that the debris in the area doesn’t break down any further into micro plastics.
Our data will be added to:
June 3rd is when we are hosting ‘A Big Community Beach Clean Up!’
We are collaborating with some great organsations for this clean up, and we hope that we can get quite a few volunteers so we can tackle both the south and north side of the Point Cloates.
The South side of Point Cloates was solid debris that was breaking down, the North side was full of light plastics and plastic bags.
